Each coin is both artwork and asset—hand-finished and ethically sourced from a goldmine that pays living wages and funds public schools.

Seasoned numismatists will recognize the specifications that mark a serious strike:
- Composition: Au .9999 fine, weight 31.103 g, diameter 21.1 mm (± 0.1 mm).
- Reeded edge, serialized micro-engraving under the rim.
- Mint mark “D U 25” (Dusoma Unit 2025) visible under magnification at 5×.
- Designed in Nairobi, finished by an independent artisan mint in New Mexico.
The Los Alamos Artisan Mint Residency
As part of the Dusoma Coin’s launch, the foundation is establishing the Los Alamos Artisan Mint Residency—a new model for ethical minting where African artisans collaborate directly with U.S. metalworkers and AI designers. Dusoma Foundation Co-Chair Shalom Kansiime will hand-finish each coin in Los Alamos, uniting East African craftsmanship with precision technology in the spirit of “Artificial Intelligence / Human Artistry.”
Design & Symbolism
The obverse portrays the Manufactured Butterfly—technology’s hand at work—while the reverse shows the Hand-Drawn Sun, representing human wisdom and creation. The two sides of the coin reflect the two sides of Dusoma, the duality of technology combined with art and humanity. On the butterfly side, the words Dusoma Coin appear in raised lettering, identifying it as both artifact and emblem of the movement. This is combined with the mission that went beyond helping refugees in East Africa, but giving hope to thousands of people in the US and around the world.
Origin Story
The 2025 series was conceived after the Dusoma Foundation’s first two years of self-funded humanitarian work in East Africa and the United States. It honors Shalom’s escape from Uganda, the “can of coins from 1960” that seeded our first fund, and the hundreds of collaborators who helped prove that AI can serve human dignity.

{Note: the following statement is aspirational, but it is our required goal.] Each ounce originates from a small-scale cooperative mine certified for living-wage labor, traceable refining, and environmental stewardship. With prosperity comes dignity; with transparency comes trust.
Collector Outlook
The inaugural run is limited to ten serial numbers, individually hallmarked and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. Whether Dusoma achieves its full vision or not, each coin retains its intrinsic melt value—approximately $1,000 as of 2025—but if our story resonates, its cultural and collector premium could be immeasurable. Each coin comes with a matching NFT.
Only the 2025 coin bears the “Genesis Edition” hallmark. 2026 and later issues will evolve in metal, motif, and mission as Dusoma transitions from fundraising to funding thousands of projects globally.
